ICDVP would like to update certified sites and individuals on the work conducted by the ICDVP Exam Review Committee. Please see a summary of the committee’s work below.
In 2024, ICDVP gathered feedback on the CDVP exam from certified sites and individuals after recognizing that aspects of the exam needed to be evaluated. Feedback indicated the information and language within some resources, which serve as the foundation of the exam, were outdated. In response to the need to update the exam, ICDVP formed the Exam Review Committee and opened applications for participation on the committee. This opportunity was open to all certified individuals and sites. Committee members were selected from the pool of applications with an effort to include representation from a variety of organizations, geographic locations, and years of certification.
The ICDVP Exam Review Committee has been working diligently since January 2024 to identify valuable resources for the exam. The first step in the process of updating the exam is identifying new resources, as exam questions must be based on information provided in identified resources. According to Continental Testing Services’ requirements, exam resources must be accessible in the public domain to individuals studying for the exam. The committee has faced challenges with identifying updated resources that meet this criterion, adequately cover the most important topics, are affordable, and properly address cultural responsiveness. It is a priority of the committee to identify truly valuable resources that serve as a strong foundation to the new exam, and they want to ensure the new exam is a strong reflection of the progress Illinois has made in addressing domestic violence.
Committee members have met once a month since January 2024 and have spent countless hours outside of meetings researching and reviewing potential resources. There have been times when a resource seemed promising, but upon further review, it did not meet the standards set forth by the committee and the feedback provided by certified professionals. They continue to research and review resources, and once resources are identified, they will work alongside Continental Testing Services to create a new exam.
This is a lengthy process, but it is important that ICDVP does not rush through this and instead takes the time and effort to create a strong exam.
ICDVP plans to review the CPAIP exam in the future; however, this process will not begin until the CDVP exam review has been completed.
