DESCRIPTION:Join us as Norma Peterson\, Document the Abuse Executive Director\, walks us through the history of the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit (EAA)\, the benefits of creating an EAA when one is experiencing abuse\, how to create one on documenttheabuse.com\, and safety planning and considerations with creating an EAA. \nNorma Peterson\, a sister-in-law of the missing Bolingbrook mother\, Stacy Peterson\, is the Executive Director of Document the Abuse which houses the work of the late domestic violence advocate Susan Murphy Milano\, specifically the Evidentiary Abuse Affidavit (EAA). \nShe worked directly with Chicago native Murphy Milano behind the scenes during the high-profile case of her brother-in-law\, Drew Peterson. Since its conclusion\, she can finally speak about her family’s experience and become a public spokesperson for the safety of abuse victims. \nAs Executive Director\, Peterson works with other experts in intimate partner violence to train and certify providers to catapult the EAA into a global network of assistance for victims of violence. In addition\, she currently works with local law enforcement agencies and legislators to establish the EAA in their protocol when working with victims of domestic violence. \nAs an Illinois State Outreach Coordinator for CUE Center for Missing Persons\, Norma\, and her husband\, Paul Peterson\, head a team of volunteers within the organization who assist with missing persons outreach and assistance. This training fulfills this requirement. \nWhat about certification? \nCompleting 40 hours of domestic violence training is the first step toward becoming an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (ICDVP). Between Friends is an ICDVP approved training and supervision site. Learn about:\n• The basics of traumatic brain injuries\n• How brain injuries can be acquired during IPV events\n• Considerations for working with survivors with IPV induced TBI \nPresenter:\nSonya Crabtree-Nelson\, PhD\, LCSW is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at DePaul University in Chicago. She received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and her MSW from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Jane Addams College of Social Work. Dr. Crabtree-Nelson has over 18 years of direct practice experience working in the areas of child welfare and domestic violence. Her research focus relates to gender based violence\, trauma\, and resilience as well as social justice in social work education. Dr. Crabtree-Nelson has presented at national and international conferences and published articles in peer-reviewed journals on these topics. Most recently\, Dr. Crabtree-Nelson co-founded the Illinois Coalition to Address Intimate Partner Induced Brain Injury.
