SUMMARY:Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month: Film Screening "The Last Drop"
DESCRIPTION:The Last Drop is a 30-minute film and national engagement campaign designed to reveal the early signs of relationship abuse. \nThe Last Drop is sci-fi film that aims to show young people what abuse looks like before it turns violent\, designed to kickstart a national conversation about relationship safety. The film takes viewers on an emotional ride through the relationship of Sofía and Anthony\, two college students in their early 20s who seem to have a perfect relationship\, one that Anthony hopes to take to the next level with the engagement ring in his pocket. They book a romantic session with Retrospect\, a company that helps couples link minds to relive their favorite shared memories. Retrospect employees connect Sofía and Anthony to a high-tech machine that looks like a turntable to rewind the couple’s collective consciousness back to their earliest memories. Meanwhile\, the purple IVs dripping into their arms keep them sedated through the painful moments to get to the good ones. We watch as they rewind through their favorite memories and experience their love story first hand; however underneath the veneer of seemingly innocuous memories\, Sofía starts to notice things she had forgotten or been made to forget\, revealing increasingly worrying signs of manipulation and abuse – emotional\, digital\, psychological\, sexual. At every step\, Anthony tries to keep his power over the situation and over her by subtly glitching the memories back to “normal\,” gaslighting her perception of reality in real time. \nTogether we will watch the film and use it to deepen our understanding of these dynamics. The screening will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session with the film maker\, Adam Joel. \nTo watch the film trailer visit: https://vimeo.com/593943138/5140908676 \nBetween Friends will provide 1 ICDVP (Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional) CEU for attendance at this screening. \nFree event\, $10 for ICDVP CEUs \nThe-last-drop-flyer-3.pdf
