DESCRIPTION:What is a 40-hour training? \nThe Domestic Violence 40-hour training provides participants with the movement’s philosophical and political framework and a solid foundation for supporting folks who experience violence. \nWhat is the 40-hour requirement? \nIn order for confidential communication to be protected\, the Illinois Domestic Violence Act (IDVA) requires that individuals working directly with domestic violence survivors have a minimum of 40 hours of domestic violence training. This training fulfills this requirement. \nWhat about certification? \nCompleting 40 hours of domestic violence training is the first step toward becoming an Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional (ICDVP). Between Friends is an ICDVP approved training and supervision site. Learn about:\n• The basics of traumatic brain injuries\n• How brain injuries can be acquired during IPV events\n• Considerations for working with survivors with IPV induced TBI \nPresenter:\nSonya Crabtree-Nelson\, PhD\, LCSW is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at DePaul University in Chicago. She received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago and her MSW from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) Jane Addams College of Social Work. Dr. Crabtree-Nelson has over 18 years of direct practice experience working in the areas of child welfare and domestic violence. Her research focus relates to gender based violence\, trauma\, and resilience as well as social justice in social work education. Dr. Crabtree-Nelson has presented at national and international conferences and published articles in peer-reviewed journals on these topics. Most recently\, Dr. Crabtree-Nelson co-founded the Illinois Coalition to Address Intimate Partner Induced Brain Injury. SUMMARY:The Intersect Between Domestic Violence and Substance Abuse
DESCRIPTION:Biography: Danielle is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a master’s in Social Work from Aurora University. Before joining Family Counseling Service in 2018\, Danielle worked eight years as a therapist at an outpatient substance abuse treatment center–primarily working with adolescents and adults with dual diagnosis concerns\, mandated to treatment by court\, DCFS\, or other entities. At FCS\, Danielle is the MISA Program Supervisor and serves as the treatment representative for Kendall County Drug Court and Kendall County Mental Health Court. Danielle facilitates psychoeducational groups for adolescents and adults through the MISA program\, Partner Abuse Intervention Program\, and at Kendall County jail. She is also a trained SMART Recovery facilitator and leads a weekly meeting on-site at FCS\, an available resource for both clients and community members to gain support for any type of addictive behavior. These experiences have provided Danielle with insights into the complexity of both addiction and domestic violence and the role each plays in the other problem behavior. She looks forward to sharing this information with you all and hearing your own experiences in addressing these concerns with the clients you serve. \nObjectives: Participants will be able to identify symptoms of addiction and theories of causes of addiction and gain insight about patterns of domestic violence and the root cause of intimate partner violence. By the end of the presentation\, participants can utilize evidenced-based strategies to address thinking patterns related to both addiction and intimate partner violence\, identify components of the Transtheoretical Model (Stages of Change) and its application to both addiction and domestic violence and analyze possible biases that impact work with this client population and identify self-care strategies to ensure effective working relationship and decrease risk of burnout. \nCEUs:  3.0
